The Outlast Trials – Red Barrel’s New Horror Game Set in the Outlast Universe
There is the good news for horror game lovers. The spooky game series, the Outlast, by Red Barrels will have one more member soon and its name will be The Outlast Trials. The new title will be multiplayer. It will explore the horror universe of the Outlast with friends, introducing cooperative play for up to four players whereas the earlier games in the series were strictly single-player.
However, the developer Red Barrels has also assured that The Outlast Trials can be played solo too for players who love a more classic first-person horror experience. You can read all about it on a gaming news website.
The Outlast Trials won’t be a direct sequel of Outlast and Outlast 2 as per Red Barrels. This means that it won’t be Outlast 3, a sequel which Red Barrel said that it will eventually be made. The Outlast Trials will in fact be a part of the same story just set amid the “Cold War era”. Players will obviously play the role of test subjects participating in an unfamiliar experiment. Players can scare themselves alone or can work together with three unlucky friends.
As per an official announcement, The Outlast Trials is in the early state of creation and more details will be coming soon. The developer hasn’t revealed the release date or platforms.
It seems that night vision goggles will replace camera in the previous games. No, they are not VR headsets as they may appear. But as the developer hasn’t yet announced platforms, the game may still have VR support.
As per David Chateauneuf, the co-founder of Red Barrels, told that their team is working hard to create a new experience that will present great fear and anxiety to millions of players, no matter they play the game alone or with friends.
Back in 2017, it was stated by Red Barrels on Facebook that they were creating “a unique experience set in the Outlast universe”. They further told that they strived to be risk-takers and this one was a fairly big challenge.
The original Outlast was launched as a first-person psychological horror game in 2013 for Windows PC. It came to consoles after a year, along with the Whistleblower add-on. The sequel Outlast 2 was launched in 2017 with a different setting as well as main character.
So, let’s look forward to the new horror The Outlast Trials to launch and expect some real fear and anxiety.
