In Guild Wars 2 the player is allowed to create a character combining eight professions and five races. The five races are humans and charr. The profession and the race of the player will decide the skills he or she can access. Just like Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2 too has a skill-based combat system. Thus players should choose only ten skills from a much bigger pool, introducing a component of strategy. But, unlike Guild Wars, here skill slots have predefined functions. Thus, the first five will be decided by a combinations of the profession and weapon of the player, the sixth can be only one amongst a number of healing skills, from the seventh to the ninth the skills will have no particular function and they are unlocked as the game continues, and the tenth slot will be an ‘influential’ skill, which too is locked at first. Guild Wars had greater number of skills, but Guild Wars 2 has been focused more on quality of skills than quantity.

Guild Wars’ low level cap has been replaced in Guild Wars 2 with one capping out at 80, which as per the developers, strikes the right balance between permission for character creation and escaping the forcing players in the grind-based gameplay which too commonly accompanies a high level cap, and its elimination was the core principle in the design of Guild Wars.

In addition to the above developments, a more detailed crafting system and other non-combat interactions are being introduced in the game.

As Guild Wars 2 has been set in a period of 250 years later than the Guild Wars period, players won’t be able to take their characters from Guild Wars. But the Hall of Monuments will reappear in Guild Wars 2 which will commemorate the honors achieved by their characters in Guild Wars. These honors are worth points which can be used to offer the characters in Guild Wars 2, exclusive items, titles, animal companions and mini-pets.

Thus Guild Wars 2 has much more for the players which will definitely appeal them and they will be certainly tempted to buy the new game.
