Independent developers and indie games have been explosive market over the past decade or so. This is thanks to how easy it is to get games published nowadays. Steam and Xbox have both been providing support for the indie game community for a while now. Because of the support and advancement of technology, it is much easier to become a game developer than it was 20 years ago. Some programs can’t let you create a game without writing code. It is astonishing.
With the indie game scene on the rise, we are starting to see a lot of independent Black game developers enter the spotlight. Some examples include Aerial Knight/Neil Jones and his game “Aerial Knight’s Never Yield”, “El Paso, Elsewhere” by Xalavier Nelson Jr. (Strange Scaffold), and “Coldfortune” by Marc Moriseau (Frostware)
This article will detail some recent and upcoming games by Black developers you should check out.

Release Date: May 2021
Aerial’s Knight’s Never Yield is probably the biggest name on this list. Developed by Neil Jones, also known as Aerial Knight, this game is a 3D side-scrolling endless runner. However, unlike other endless runners, Aerial Knight’s Never Yield has a story to progress.
You play as a mysterious character named Wally. You will need to help him escape from enemies that are trying to stop him from exposing the truth. This journey will also explain the mystery behind Wally. Aerial Knight’s Never Yield is visually impressive for an indie game. It has a vibrant and unique art style.
Released last year to acceptable reviews, it currently has a very positive rating on Steam. Available for all major consoles and PC.
Coldfortune
Developer: Frostware
Release Date: TBA
Coldfortune is an upcoming game by Frostware. It is a third-person survival game with a fixed camera angle. The fixed camera is similar to old-school Resident Evil games or Full Spectrum Warrior. Coldfortune is still in development but the developers promise it will have intense action. Players will find themselves in intense combat situations with plenty of gunplay. Coldfortune will also feature stylish and cinematic quick-time events.
Marc Morisseau is the Game Director for Coldfortune and has worked as a motion capture artist on AAA games. These games include Resident Evil 6, Dark Souls 2, and Battlefield 4. With this info, you can bet the game will likely animate very well.
So far, the game has no release date and looks to be only coming out for PC at the moment.
